On Valentine's, Let Love Prevail!

My marriage is imperfect, as I’m sure every other marriage is. But almost 14 years ago, I vowed to love and cherish this man I still call my husband. And sure enough, 13 years and some months after, nothing much had changed.

As sure as the sun shines in the East, this is the man I want to spend the rest of my days with.

In a world where most marriages don’t stand the test of time, where young ones are afraid to start a journey into the family life because of either catastrophic marriages their own parents went through or notions of marriage being the destroyer of values and/or beliefs they hold in esteem, I’m blessed to have an imperfect one, but something that promises to stay true until I breathe my last.

You might ask how we did it. Well, looking back, I guess the answer is simple - accepting each other for who we are, accepting that we both are imperfect, and that the imperfection of one can complement the imperfection of the other to create a marriage that works.

To couples out there, to people who deep in their guts know some loves are for keeps, to folks who believe that true love is just around the corner, to souls who have loved and lost but still keep on loving, happy Valentine’s, and may you all keep the love burning in your hearts!

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
