Anyone Got a Free Drink for Me?

I was offered a good enough amount to copy/paste an article containing a link to an online gaming site, a bingo site specifically, in my other site. The article was fine, although a little shorter than the articles I usually post there. But it was the bingo site that got me thinking really hard. I was given until tomorrow morning to think about it.

Given my personal stance on gambling, I probably am going to have to reject the offer.

The site offers free gaming opportunities, but nothing is really free, especially in the Internet. Like a good friend of mine once said, in the virtual world, free is synonymous to "gotcha!"

[Update: I rejected the offer the first time. They came calling back, and I had to assert that I needed to write the article myself, just so I remain faithful to my core beliefs. They relented, and the article is right there up in my other site.]

I was at my daughter's school yesterday afternoon to claim her report card and to have a little chat with her teacher. I was there minutes before 3:00 p.m., and I was all groggy from lack of sleep already. I had to travel more than 1.5 hours right after I got off the night shift. And because I had a lot of online tasks to attend to as well, I decided to work a bit.

Next thing I knew, it was past lunch time and I had no time left to nap. So I went to school feeling like I was floating or something.

I was expecting an organized queuing system, meaning, those who were there first should get their kids' report cards first. Oh, boy, organized it definitely wasn't. And did I just say queuing system? There practically was no queuing system that I had to end up policing and directing the newcomers (parents and other kids alike) to queue up in a tone I wasn't particularly proud of. I just hope nobody took offense.

Well, no sleep on a Saturday doesn't particularly put anyone in a good mood, does it?

TV, Wheatgrass and More TV

Being a mom, sometimes, keeping tabs on what's going on locally and around the world can be very depressing, especially since a lot of today's news focus on widespread assaults on children.

Every time I get to read or watch something along those horrific lines, I can only shake my head in disbelief, all the while praying that my own kids and those of other parents be spared from whatever monstrosity other people can potentially inflict on them.

~oOo~

In a different scenario, I'm recently discovering the wonderful effects of wheatgrass. Since the start of the new year, I've been a constant visitor of a nearby drugstore. One of my goals for 2013 is to trim the fat, but if it's going to prove to be a challenge, to at least keep my carbs intake to a minimum. I'm not getting any younger, and it's a known fact of life that as a person matures in age, the body's metabolism starts to lose some steam.

And because I'm not eating as much vegetables as I like, I decided to supplement my diet with a glass of wheatgrass everyday. First thing I noticed is that I no longer am prone to colds. It would seem like my rhinitis has finally decided to bid me goodbye.

Another reason I need to shed some pounds is what seems to be chronic heel pain in my right foot. I've already consulted with an orthopedist (podiatrists are one in a million where I live, probably non-existential), and I was told to ditch the flats, slip-ons and flip-flops altogether. So yes, what I always wear now are running shoes.

Good thing we're never required to come to the office in business attire, except maybe on special occasions, which, in the 3.5 years I've been with the company I work for is equivalent to one occasion. And even though the good doctor had not mentioned losing weight, I am of the belief that losing weight should ease the pressure on the heel as well.

Bottom line, I need to lose those extra pounds, if only to not aggravate the pain in my heel.

One Sunday afternoon, I overheard my youngest bellowing at the top of his lungs, "You stupid imbecile!"

I rushed to where the commotion was and was surprised to find him and his brother laughing their hearts out. They were playing the Millionaire's Game his big brother got as gift last Christmas and they were talking in English, with matching American accent. They probably found their accents amusing (us not being native English speakers), hence, the laughter.

Still, I told him, "You don't call your brother 'stupid imbecile,' Kurt. It's not right."

He answered, "I didn't mean it, Mama. We were imitating ..." He mentioned the name of some cartoon character.

I had to heave a sigh. TV!

PR Update, Blog Update, Goal Update - The Big Update

Hola, people! It's been a while, and I apologize for that. Life got in the way.

So since this is my very first post for 2013, I hope it isn't too late to wish everyone a great year. Hopefully, you've already made your 2013 plans and checklists.

I've looked into my Drafts archives, and it turned out I had a couple of blog posts I put on park but never got around to completing. So in order not to waste the emotions that apparently had been captured in the said drafts, let me share them with you today:

In October of last year, shortly after I published my final blog post for the year, a post entitled On and Off, My Internet Connection Drives Me Peanuts! went:

My Internet connection had been on and off the whole day. Although not the kind of on and off - off for a few seconds then back again - that other people I know experience on a regular basis, the experience isn't making me very happy. I may not be an expert on time management yet, but you bet, my time is precious. I have a lot of things to do.
Okay, now that it's up again, let me end this post and get back to work.

And then going further down the Drafts folder, in an untitled blog post in May of 2012, I wrote:

This had been a crazy work week, that much I can say. Having had to render overtime to help keep backlogs at manageable levels, plus my freelancing commitments to attend to, boy, I was literally on a roll. But looking back, crazy as it might have been, all is good. Yes, all is good. I survived the week in one piece.
The kids are spending their time out of school at my in-laws. It was a favor my father-in-law had requested before Christmas of last year. The old man loves his grandchildren and relishes spending time with them.

Yesterday saw another PR update that elated a good number of my blogger friends. While some SEO experts and other key blogging personalities insist that PR is just a number, it still is a number that Google measures. For a good majority of the blogging community, that says something. Along that vein, surprisingly enough, from a PR of 0, The Weekend Mommy Blog now has a PR of 1.

Not very remarkable, you might say, and I concede. Still, it's going up the ladder. And that has to make at least one person in this world smile, right, especially since I haven't been around much for updates?

I'm not going to promise the blogging moon and stars in this post because really, like most of us, I've got so much to do and so little time. What I can promise though is I'll keep in touch.

See you around!

Sneezefest Monday ... Again!

It’s that time of the week again – Sneezefest Monday.

I honestly don’t know, but there’s something about Mondays that leaves me sneezing my brains off. Gross, I know. Sorry about that. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but for some time now, I’ve noticed that my rhinitis would be at its worst on Mondays, of all days. Psychological maybe? The same way Mondays are manic for some people, being the start of another week of work, work, work?

Hard to tell, but I’m guessing that may be the case, too. Well, apart from the fact that I usually rush to get some laundry done on Mondays. You know, fabric particles getting their way into my nostrils? Good thing my doctor prescribed a good enough allergy medication. Still ...

Before I pass on some virus to you, I’m going to have to end this post here. I'll try to get some rest before the whole family heads over to my in-laws' place in a few hours. It's the semestral break and the kids will be spending the whole week with their grandpa.

I’ll try to write some more next time, I promise.

This Is Now A CommentLuv-Powered Blog

OK. So I finally did it.

Jeez, the procrastinator in me needs a headslap. I should have done this a long time ago. Have a look! This blog is now a CommentLuv-enabled blog.

If you wish to install CommentLuv on your Blogger blog, too, simply follow this tutorial. As you can tell, it works pretty magnificently.

Happy commenting!
